To prepare for the Mt Everest Summit, Michael is undertaking three significant expeditions this year. The first one is to Mt Everest Base Camp, where he will trek for 21 days to allow his body to adapt to high altitude conditions and get used to the new terrains. Next, he will climb Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in Morocco, during the winter season to experience tougher weather conditions. Later in the year, he will climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, standing at 5895m.
In early 2024, Michael plans to summit Ecuador’s Triple Crown, the three highest peaks in Ecuador, including Chimborazo at 6310m, where he will stand on the furthest point from the centre of the earth, and Cotopaxi at 5897m and Cayambe at 5790m. This will enable him to gain higher altitudes, experience thinner air, and use ice axes.
Aside from hiking the tallest mountains in the world, Michael has a dream of providing workshops for both children and adults. He wants to share his experiences, knowledge, tips, and advice with others. Michael can demonstrate his skills in using axes, ropes, crampons, mountain routes, and more in these workshops. He aspires to share with the Deaf community how hiking and walking can help with mental health issues, which are high among the community.
Over the years, Michael has learned many skills, including using crampons, axes, ropes, and hiking in various weather conditions. He has also learned how to survive on a mountain, respect the weather, and close the gap in the Deaf community by providing BSL access. Michael shares his journey through his Facebook page and Instagram account in BSL vlogs and offers tips, advice, and any support he receives is greatly appreciated.
